My Recovery Do Over

By: Marc McMahon

Ever been in a situation where you just wish you had one more chance? Where the universe or your God, or your door knob, would give you another opportunity to get it right? When you know if you could just do it over another time that odds are this time you will get it right. I sure know I have, as a matter of fact, it has been a sincere heartfelt prayer at times.

Well, I don’t know who your higher power is, but mine is in the second, third, and 100th chance business of making dreams a reality and miracles happen. In the business of answering prayers and honoring his promises. As scripture says “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16 KJV. How do I know? Easy, it is happening to me right now as we speak and has been for almost four months now.

When I finally got clean again after my last relapse I noticed a few amazing things begin to transpire in my life. The biggest I think is some of the coincidences (if you want to call them that. Personally I do not) that have transpired since I got clean again. For instance, last year when I decided to make one final attempt at getting clean my clean date was April 9, 2016. This year when I got clean again my new clean date was April 10. 2017. This is something I did not even realize until almost a month later.

Also, I had sold my new Mt.Bike for drugs during my last relapse so I had been looking to get me a new one to replace it but it was hard to do with the little money I make every month. Well hard to do in the natural, but when God gets on board what was once impossible for me to achieve in the natural is a piece of cake for my spiritual King! He has connections in high places and has been known to pull a few strings here and there to bless his children!

So what happens? I received my check on payday and I found the bike I wanted but I could not decide whether or not to spend my whole check on it and be broke a month. Or, put a third down and put it on layaway and pay it off over the course of 3 months. Well, layaway although super cool, is a tough pill for this addict and his need for instant gratification to swallow. I imagine somebody can relate :).

Knowing myself and knowing layaway will never happen even though I won’t admit it to myself. Not wanting to be broke all month either left me holding onto bike money then slowly watching it dwindle down as the days go bye. Then as I am searching Craigslist for a blessing of a mountain bike, there it is, I see it. It is the same model bike I had sold for drugs last winter, just different color. But it had all the same components and the price was unbelievably reasonable.

Long story short, I bought that bike and although not exactly what I wanted it is awesome and the guy just wanted it to have a good home and gave it to me for $100 can you believe that! This way I can ride this for a year and save up (hopefully, fingers crossed) for the new one I have my eye on. Then come next summer I will have 2 mountain bikes one mine and one a person who doesn’t have one can borrow so they can come too!

I don’t know maybe it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to you but to me, it has the hand of my higher power all over it. I see it as nothing short of a miracle and wanted to tell you all about this because a power greater than ourselves is a very real thing. Regardless of what you choose to call that power, this is a prime example of how it blesses its people. I love you all more than you know, be blessed!
